Overview of the webinars

The three-part webinar series is aimed at online retailers of all non-food consumer products, including electrical appliances, toys and consumer goods. It is relevant for all sellers of these products, whether they are sold new, repaired, refurbished or second-hand.

Even if you do not sell online, if you are involved in non-food consumer products, you will find this course helpful if you want to learn more about protecting your customers and your business.

Part one is an introduction and includes:

  • an introduction to PAS 7050: Bringing safe products to the market. Code of practice and PAS 7100: Product recall and other corrective actions. Code of practice*
  • the basics of product safety
  • the legal obligations of economic operators
  • the importance of testing
  • risk assessment and corrective action

[*Both of these documents are free to download from the British Standards Institution website.]

PAS 7050 is a safety standard that supports businesses in bringing safe products to market, and provides suggestions and recommendations on what a 'product safety management plan' (PSMP) may look like. It provides a more proactive focus, with the aim of preventing unsafe products from reaching the market in the first place.

Part two of these webinars focuses on proactive product safety management. The session covers why safety requirements are needed and how to ensure you are compliant. It focuses on the preparation of a PSMP (covered in PAS 7050) and a 'product safety incident plan' (PSIP, covered in PAS 7100).

Part three covers:

  • the development of a PSMP
  • reviewing the clauses of PAS 7050
  • the development of a PSIP
  • applying both PAS documents in practice
